A great and a full year, lets start with the Rainbows between the two units they have visited the Fire Station, Library and have had several walks out, completed the Broneirion Challenge and also the Anglian 20 year Rainbow Challenge. Naturally in between there has been craft for all occasions i.e Mothers Days, Easter, Fathers Day, Christmas and more. We must not forget the Pantomimes, Christmas Party, BBQ, Food Tasting Nights and Games. Our first ever Rainbow Sleepover was held in our Headquarters in November, this proved to be very successful, not one tear was shed and everyone wants to do it again. A great way to introduce the girls to Brownie Pack Holiday.
The Brownies as usual are always full of ideas they too have been involved with plenty of Crafts, Walks, Bike Rides, Christmas Capers ( which they loved ), Swimming, BBQ’s and Christmas Parties. The highlights I think for all Brownies are the Pack Holidays, two were held in London this year, sounds quite a daunting experience but the girls were marvellous and very well behaved. One unit staying at Baden Powell House and the other at Ruislip and another visited Swansea. All had a fantastic time and many happy memories. There is always so much to do in Brownies and apart from what has been mentioned one unit chose to complete the Diamond Challenge for Broneirion, their celebrations have been ongoing all year due to their leader Irene celebrating 30 years in Guiding. A party was held and organised at Broomes by Irene and many of her old and new Brownies attended, it was a great evening and a greater achievement to achieve 30 years running a Brownie Unit. Irene Unit completed many other challenges over the year including Music Nights, European Night, making Crowns and many more. Two units organised a Christmas Concert at Portskewett Church Hall, this is their 3rd Concert and was extremely well supported not only by the children but by parents and family. A great deal of hard work goes on behind the scenes but on the night it was fantastic with everyone leaving star-struck. All units have achieved a great deal this year.
The Guides have enrolled several girls this year choosing Caldicot Castle for the occasion. The guides have taken a project at Durand School Nature Park learning about plants, trees and the environment, they too have had BBQ’s, Walks and a Sleepover at our Headquarters, outside cooking, Ice Skating, a visit and talk from our local vicar, plus of course Craft and a Body Shop Party.
Our young Leaders well what can I say they are a most dedicated group of girls who contribute a great deal ( our future leaders we hope !! ). Three of our girls visited our World Centre – Our Cabana in Switzerland this year and thoroughly enjoyed meeting up with other Young Leaders – Well Done.
As a District we have celebrated our Thinking Day Service in Portskewett Church we then returned to the Church Hall for refreshments. Our Annual District Day out was at Longleat and although the weather was terrible we still had a great time. Rememberance Sunday was held at St Marys Church in Caldicot.
As a District we have had a full year not only the children enjoying and learning through Guiding but the Leaders also attending a variety of trainings so that we can keep up with the girls.
How would I sum up this year…………. Full of Fun, Learning, Excitement, Joining with other Units and Sharing.
