August 2009 - Malvern, Worcestershire

Pack holiday 2009 - Blackmore Guide centre, Malvern Worcester

We arrived at our pack holiday destination on Saturday 15th August for the start of what turned out to be a very busy week.  We were staying at the Brownie house at Blackmore guide centre.  The hall is a purpose built brownie pack holiday home that has 2 separate brownie dormitories, a dining room and a separate room for crafts.  It is in a lovely country setting with its own grounds and adjoining guide camps.

Our theme for the week was Disney and one of the first jobs we had when we arrived was to decorate the hall with posters and banners.  After this the brownies were split into 3 sixes for the week.  Each six were allocated a role each day either cooks, waitresses or homemakers.  Theses sixes helped out with all of the daily tasks from cooking the dinner, serving the meals to cleaning toilets.  The brownies all put an effort into their daily roles and helped to make the week a truly memorable one.

As well as these daily tasks there were plenty of activities arranged for the week.  We went swimming at Malvern Splash, on a day trip to West Midlands Safari Park, shopping in Worcester, played skittles, had a fancy dress disney tea party and went out for a meal.  We also did some craft activities - we painted a porcelain vase, made a coaster and a door hanger for our bedrooms,

The weather was really kind to us when we were away so we all worked towards our agility badge - this involved us working our way around an activity course that had been set up for the badge.  The activity was hard work but also lots of fun.  As well as all earning our agility badge all the girls worked towards other brownie badges like cook and pack holiday.

All too soon it was Saturday and our week was over - we can't wait until next year!!!

August 2008 - Gorwellion house Porthcawl

We spent a week in Porthcawl where our theme was High School musical. The camp house in Porthcawl is on the edge of the sand dunes in a loveky setting. During our week there we went out on several occasions including walks to the beach, swimming in trecco bay, shopping in Swansea, a visit to an art cafe and a suprise trip to Oakwood Theme park in Narberth. We had a great time and spent our time playing with our brownie friends, cooking and doing craft.

August 2007 - Willow Tree Centre - Ruislip Middlesex

This pack holiday was a special one as 2007 was the year that Brown Owl celebrated 30 years of service to girls guiding. This was the furthest we have been on pack holiday. We hired a coach and left Caldicot on Saturday to take us to Ruislip and we had so many things to do that time seemed to fly until we were picked up again the following Saturday. Our theme was Christmas in the Sun  we decorated the hall with a Christmas tree and had a full Christmas dinner with all the trimmings. One of our sixes had a lot of work to do helping to peel all the vegetables but the rest of us didn't escape we were responsible for serving the tables and washing up! We had our turn at cooking on other days though. We had an extra special surprise on Christmas morning as our stockings that we had made were filled with gifts!

The hall at Ruislip was in large grounds where we were able to all play outside safely. The hall was very nice and we had lots of things to do. Wed all taken a dressing up outfit with us and put on a mini show. We also went on a day trip to Chessington adventure park which was really good fun. The sun was out for the day and we had really good fun going on all of the rides. We also went into the centre of London. It was a great experience as some of us had never been on a train before let alone a tube! When we were in London we went on a Duck Tour on the Thames and through the streets of London. We went out for a special tea in the Rain Forest Caf. The Rain Forest Caf was amazing and the staff went out of their way to make sure the girls had a really good time. http://www.willowtreecentre.co.uk/
