2nd Caldicot Brownies meet every Monday during term time and we follow an active Brownie program for girls’ age 7 to 10. We do arts & crafts, sing songs, play games, work towards Brownie badges, we enjoy bike rides, picnic and nature trails. We also have fun days out and an annual pack holiday in May or sleepovers. Every two or three years we hold a Christmas Concert.
In 2010 we celebrated 100 years of guiding. We took part in the Adventure 100 badge. We went to a centenary launch event at Chepstow Racecourse, took over Caldicot Castle for the day, produced scrapbooks and had several sleepovers in unusual places (Tintern railway, Caldicot Castle & Scallywags soft play area).
In 2011 we have another busy year planned:-
- We are taking part in Beyond the Duck. With the RSPB, our brownies are working towards the badge by completing several challenges such as taking part in the Big Garden Bird watch (by counting the number of birds in their garden) and having a day out at Newport Wetlands to learn more about birds.
- We are celebrating the Wedding of Prince William and Kate by taking part in the Royal Wedding Challenge. We are designing our own dresses to wear to the wedding, making tiaras and are having a Princess Party.
- In May, we are having our Brownie pack holiday, with Caldicot Guides, at a PGL adventure camp (www.pgl.co.uk ). Our Brownies will have the chance to abseil, go zip-wiring and canoeing along with many other activates.
