Newsletter January 2008
Here is some news from 1st Portskewett Brownies
We start of with some news from last term ,
sorry we haven't wrote to you before now it is that we have been busy
Brownies.
You see last term we were with 2nd Caldicot
Brownies putting together concert but it wasn't just one it was 2 shows in
the same day ( boy I needed my bed at the end of the day.)
We had all been practising for 7 or 8 weeks just
at our meeting learning a dance routine, learning new camp songs and
learning what and were we would be on the day.
We started our concert walking into Portskewett
Church hall in our p.j.'s and carrying our bestest teddy singing ...Away in
the manager everyone was watching for we had a full house at both shows
anyway after our carol we sat at the front of the stage and our Brown Owls
done a welcome speech and then from there we had our District Commissioner
she said a few words about Christmas and what it meaning in different
countries, then we sang a few carols with everyone standing up ( oh boy with
the hall was full and when I stopped for just a second the singing was like
a professional choir well done to you all) ) with the help of a young man
Maurice (though not sure of his age but he had a young lady by his side all
day and night looking after him she was so kind to do for him, we later
found out it was his wife Yuonne ) With both their help we were able to sing
every carol . And we thank them both for all their help with us
Each unit done a dance routine and everyone
clapped when we had finished ( my legs were like jelly at the end ) glad
when we had done that bit. but it was the second half was the funny bit you
see we had done a camp song melody we lots of actions and some we funny and
you know what Maurice knew all the msic for tem to so it was lovely to have
music all the way trough that part too.
Then next we didn't know what was happening for
Maurice had announced that Robbie Williams and Nicole Kidman were coming on
stage and boy we had a laugh for it was all the leaders dressed up with our
Brown Owls has the two main famous people and boy they were brill and they
did give us all a laugh and when this part was done in the evening show
everyone stood up and clapped for them WELL DONE BROWN OWLS!!!!!
We settled back down next with a few words
from our Terfoil Chairperson then we had everyone up singing a few more
carols afterwards some old music started up and here came our leaders all
dressed up again DOING THEIR OWN DANCE ROUTINE ( I think a few steps were
out but they carried on and it was brill it was a picture to see)
The both shows ending with everyone singing
wishing you a Merry Christmas.
In between the shows we all stayed at the hall
and had our tea brought in for us we had sausages and chips bread and butter
and chocolate cake for puddings it was lush having this big tea party in
between the shows
But it was the evening show I think was the best
we remember things more and we smiled more for we were all a little more
relaxed and the nerves had gone at last !!!!!!
When the evening was over I was glad of bed that
night, but it was brilliant to be part of a great team and I had made new
friends from the other unit so I was happy with that, it is nice having
other friends from school. We donated the money raised to the hall £200.00
and we had a new set of steps made to go on the stage .
After the that night we had the weekend to
recover and on our last meeting before the break we had a mum and daughter
evening we went out to the Dewstow Golf club for dinner and it was very nice
too we sat in big chairs and felt grown up eating here it was better that Mc
Donalds hands up !! We had a great night and the food was lovely too.
Now it is the new year and have been getting our
programme together we have started with going into our groups to work for
different badges some are doing their Agility, some are doing their Hobbies
and my group and another one are joining up to do our Booklovers one and so
we have been busy.
Anyway I 'm off now for have just found out
there is going to be a pack holiday this year and I can go and so I must
learn to make my bed and do odd jobs around the house so that when I go away
I can do some of jobs with the older Brownies who have been before, oh I am
so excited... mum where did you say my sleeping bed is ?????
Bye for now write to you take care .......
